We were a little late so I left the sign in the car instead of bringing it in. |
We took Rachel to a Calgarian staple on the way home. Everyone in Calgary has been here, and loves it here. I just know it. In fact, we went there and were just leaving after lunch and who pulls up? Jordan, Eric's older brother, on his break from work. What are the chances?
I told Rachel about these milkshakes before and today she had a root beer vanilla shake. It was delicious!
When we got home Rachel slept forever and ever. Then when she woke up we
kidnapped her and forced her on a double date with us and Eric's
younger brother Ben. I'm sure neither of them objected, because who
would? They're both beautiful people! We went to Global Fest and saw the
US fireworks. It was actually a ton of fun. I've wanted to see it for a
long time now, and this was a really fun night to do it with a few
people I love.

The truth is though that Rachel isn't staying long. She's moved now to Alberta, but she's going to University of Lethbridge so she can't stay in Calgary forever. Today we went down to find her an apartment and a job. She had an apartment set up to look at so we went there first, then to the institute building to look at some other postings for places. The first one was a nice place, but felt a little weird. The girl was strange and the place was really messy. We looked at the institute building and called a few people, but those places didn't work out. So I got out my computer and looked with her on Kijiji. The first place we looked at and called could was listed 3 minutes before that and was able to see us right away. We went over there and the apartment was great! It was so clean and big and the room was big and included a nice big bed and a dresser. It felt really good, and Rachel got really excited about it. It was fun to be there with her for that.
Then we went to hand out resumes and look for jobs in that area. She handed out a few and talked with a few people and felt good about that. It was a productive day, and we had a ton of fun.
Leaving Lethbridge was the most confusing thing ever. I took so many wrong turns and there were so many spots that wouldn't let me turn on to the road I wanted to be on. Ugh. I got so so frustrated. I think we drove past this thing 7 times, driving different ways.
It was so nice to get everything sorted out pretty well in Lethbridge today because it meant that Rachel could come home to Calgary to hang out and play for the week with me. With everything taken care of and feeling settled there, she can enjoy her last few days of summer vacation before her real life begins. So on the way home we got to stop in Claresholm for chicken strips and potato wedges from 7Eleven. The chicken was disappointing today, but on a regular day, I'm pretty sure it's the only reason this town exists in my mind. There is no other reason for it.
Then on the way home, one of the places Rachel passed a resume to called her for an interview for tomorrow evening. Luckily, Logan is going down again tomorrow so she has a way to get to it. She is so grown up now, and I'm wishing her luck for her interview tomorrow. Then her whole life will be sorted out! What a successful day.
