A Day in the Zoo

This morning we went to pick up some stuff for Eric's parents at a garage sale. That started a fun morning for me. We of course saw signs on the way for other sales, so we just had to stop at a few of those. It was a successful morning, with some really fun finds.
Sale #1: Rachel found a $3 blanket for her bed in Lethbridge.
Sale #2: I found this unfinished dresser (which means I can paint and redo it easily!) marked for $2, but given to us for $1. The free medicine cabinet that I can also redo easily, and has a super cute handle.
Sale #3: There were lots of things I liked at this sale. This cheese dish was the first thing I saw, because I love the glass dome. I've seen many cute centre pieces and things done with these domes so I'll get rid of the wood block, and use the dome. She said it was $1. Then I found a set of these tea cups and one woman told me $1 for the set, which I LOVED, and the other girls were shocked and almost wanted to charge me more. Then Eric found this book he loved as a kid. We walked out of there spending $2 for all those things.

When we got home Jordan and the kids were over and on their way to the zoo. So Eric and I got ready really fast and decided to go with them. We stopped at Costco on the way so I could get a memory card and get out my new camera...!!
Here are some snapshots of us and the kids at the zoo.
It started hailing a few minutes in so we came into the butterfly room. Everyone else had that idea, and so a room full of people and butterflies flying randomly was not exactly my idea of a good time. Neither was getting me and my camera wet and cold.
Max does not like looking at me when I take pictures of him. Ever!
Flamingos are my favourites every time.
Verona looking at Timone.
Max in the cage.
Pretty accurate picture of kids and Dad at the zoo.
Being a tiger.
Some of my pictures aren't very good today. I'm still just learning, and it's going to take a lot of time I feel. I'm really nervous, but getting it out the first day at the zoo was a good start. I also registered for my classes this morning so that was a good second step.
When Eric and I lived in Halifax separately (all those three years ago), Eric promised me he would some day take me to the Calgary Zoo. That finally happened today, and it made me so happy. It was so fun with Verona and Max as well (and Jordan).

Tonight we got to see some old friends again. Matt is one of Eric's really good friends, and has always been a really good friend to me too. He got married last year and they are now expecting a little baby boy. They live in Ontario these days because Matt is in school there. It will be a happy day when they're back in Calgary for good in a few years, but tonight it was nice to see them just for a good meal and a fun night. Tonight was the opposite of this morning. I forgot even our little camera at home, as well as my phone, so all the pictures from the evening had to be taken on Eric's iPhone, then sent to mine, then uploaded to the computer.
The Freak Lunchbox, one of our favourite spots in Halifax, is now in Calgary.
It was a good last Saturday of the summer.
