I don't normally like things that are "fads". I just can't get on board, just because every one else is. I like things on my own terms, when I'm ready to. Twilight, Harry Potter and Taylor Swift may be the most prominent examples I can think of.
A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of picking up this book my sister-in-law started reading. I sat for a couple of minutes when I was sick and read the first few pages of The Hunger Games. I was hooked. I actually really enjoyed reading it. It was fun because I've seen previews and posters for the movie coming out, but obviously haven't seen the whole movie. I had the pictures of characters and some places in my mind, but the story wasn't quite ruined for me yet. On the trip on Monday I brought it in the car, and Eric was curious. I wanted him to be involved so that I would have a reason to be able to read as well as spend time with him. I gave him a very detailed description of what I'd read so far, then we picked up from there. We've spent every ride in the car this week, as well as a few minutes each evening reading more of the book.
Tonight we finished the book, and it was so intense. We've decided it might be a good idea for us to pretend to always be "star crossed lovers". That might bring more spontaneous crazinesss and adventure to our relationship. We immediately started the second book. We're not as hooked yet, but still enjoying the time we do set aside to read it.
Reading together is a nice way to escape reality, together.
