Coming Home

Last night I came home from Halifax, to my husband in Calgary. It was a bitter sweet airport visit. I ended up missing Eric terribly, even though I told him I wouldn't. This journey felt like it was taking forever to get home to him.
The airport in Halifax went smoother than imagined. I had one 50lbs suitcase to bring home, then I had one carry-on as normal. Then I decided I wanted to try to bring my sewing machine home on the plane, instead of shipping it home in a friends car next month. Then my sister decided to try to send a suitcase with me, since she is moving here at the end of this month. The guy we dealt with was very helpful though. My sewing machine was the size of a large carry-on, but since we didn't know what would happen at security, he checked it for me for free and stuck it with the fragile things. Then he checked my suitcase as normal, then he even checked my sister's bag for the price of a 2nd checked item, instead of the price of a 3rd checked item. So he saved us $30 and the hassle of me trying to carry a sewing machine box through the airport in Toronto on my lay-over. All that, and then I even made my flight on time, and with just one light carry-on bag and a purse.
The flight from Halifax to Toronto was normal. Then we landed in Toronto and there were warnings for really big thunder storms coming in. I thought I was going to be delayed, but I wasn't. They got us on the plane on time, and we pulled away from the gate on time. Then the runway was taken up by flights that were delayed coming in. So there we sat, for an hour and half. On the plane in our seats. It was so frustrating. But at least I had a whole row to myself. I was in an aisle seat, the middle was empty, and then the guy at the window moved to a different spot to sit with a friend. I had a whole row, but I forgot a pillow so I still didn't sleep a wink, and could not manage to get comfortable.
Eventually I made it to Calgary, and I almost cried when I finally saw Eric. He was looking all handsome and like my knight and shining armor, come to swoop me up and take me home.
